The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) standing committee, on Thursday approved the proposal of building up a flyover at the GST Railway crossing connecting Ranip with New Ranip area. The committee also gave its green signal to the proposal of paying Rs 36.60 lakh to railway department towards plan and estimation charges.

The civic body has proposed to build a flyover bridging Sabarmati-Chandkheda railway line at a total cost of around Rs 18.30 crore. Once operational, this bridge is likely to ease traffic problems of the area. Currently, New Ranip residents have to wait for hours at GST crossing, resulting into traffic chaos. As per rules, AMC needs permission of railway department before starting any work in 15-metre radius of railway tracks.
